Build Operations Insights host and database capacity planning configurations with forecasting and news reports.

compartmentIddisplayNamehostInsightscapacityPlanningOutput will appear here...Your DBA team is reactive — they discover capacity issues when alerts fire (or worse, when users complain). The builder generates an Operations Insights config: all 30 production databases enrolled, 90-day forecast horizon, alerts when projected CPU/storage exhaustion within 30 days. After 2 months of data accumulation, the team identifies 3 databases trending toward storage exhaustion in 60-90 days. Storage capacity expanded proactively; what would have been emergency outages becomes scheduled maintenance.
Build Operations Insights host and database capacity planning configurations with forecasting. This tool helps OCI engineers generate valid configurations quickly without consulting documentation, reducing errors and accelerating infrastructure deployment. All processing runs in your browser with no data sent to external servers.
The builder constructs OCI Operations Insights configurations: enterprise/host enrollment (which hosts/databases to monitor), data collection schedule, capacity planning configuration (forecast horizon, confidence threshold, resource types to forecast: CPU/memory/storage/IOPS), workload analysis settings, and integration with Notifications for budget breach alerts. Output is generated as oci opsi commands and Terraform oci_opsi_database_insight + oci_opsi_host_insight resources.
Operations Insights is the killer feature for capacity planning on Oracle Database workloads. ML-based forecasting predicts when you'll exhaust CPU/memory/storage based on historical trends — saving you from the 'discovered we'd run out next week' panics. Free tier covers up to 25 hosts/databases.
SQL workload analysis identifies the highest-cost queries across your DB fleet. The classic 80/20 rule applies — usually 5-10 queries cause 80% of resource consumption. Ops Insights surfaces these automatically; targeting them for optimization yields disproportionate performance gains.
Forecasting accuracy improves with historical data. For new databases, expect 4-6 weeks of data before forecasts are reliable. Don't make capacity decisions based on the first week of forecasts — the model needs sufficient signal to detect trends vs noise.
